Top 10 Songs to Listen to After a Break Up.

Break ups aren’t fun, unless you’re a sociopath and you never had feelings to begin with… I can name a few of my ex’s… but I wont.

I have noticed after my breakups music always seemed to help me more than anything, whether it be a sad depressing song, angry rap music, some country, or a song you just dance to.

Here are 10 songs that helped me with my break ups.

1. The Feeling by Justin Bieber

This song isn’t about a breakup but I find it explains the way you feel pretty damn well. For instance, sometimes you breakup and you think you truly loved the person, but did you actually love them? Or did you love the feeling of loving someone? Many of us just want to be with someone for the sake of it, that we stay with them even if we aren’t happy.

Am I in love with you? Am I in love with you?
Or am I in love with the feeling?
Trying to find the truth, trying to find the truth
Sometimes the heart is deceiving
Can’t get out of my head, I need you to save me
If I am delusional then maybe I’m crazy
In love with you, am I in love with you?
Or am I in love with the feeling? (Oh)

2. Used to Love You by Gwen Stefani

This song pretty much explains how I feel after a breakup. After a breakup you do everything you can to hate the person. After all it’s easier to get over someone if you hate them, but once in a while that feeling that you used to love them creeps in.

I don’t know why I cry
But I think it’s ’cause I remembered for the first time
Since I hated you
That I used to love you

3. I Know I’m Not the Only One by Sam Smith

Now this song… this song is absolutely phenomenal. Sam Smith in general is a god. This song, just hits so hard. You can feel the pain in his voice. This song really helps if you were cheated on and the person you were with constantly lied about it, or you were with someone who you thought had your best interest, but they were also talking to other people.

You say I’m crazy
‘Cause you don’t think I know what you’ve done
But when you call me baby
I know I’m not the only one

4. Every Time I Hear That Song by Blake Shelton

Blake Shelton… ❤ This song just does something to my heart. I find when you’re in a relationship, theres something that brings you together; whether it be a song, a type of food, a TV show, a movie, a nickname, a type of vehicle, a stuffed animal.. anything. There’s something that always will remind you of them. For Blake, it’s a song, and every time he hears it, he thinks about her.

Every time I hear that song
I’m standing in the pouring rain
On your front lawn and oh-oh-oh
I still think about you oh-oh-oh
Every time I hear that song
It’s like the first time it came on and oh-oh-oh
I still think about you oh-oh-oh
I still think about you
Oh, I still think about you

5. Every Little Thing by Carly Pearce

This song is just wow. I heard it two weeks ago, and I have had it on repeat ever since. Everything about this song is beautiful. When a relationship ends, you sit there and replay everything, and by everything I mean literally EVERYTHING that happened. You remember everything you did together, from laying in bed, to going on adventures, to your text messages, your phone calls… You sit there and think about it day in and day out. Every little thing reminds you of them.

Guess you forgot what you told me
Because you left my heart on the floor
Baby, your ghost still haunts me
But I don’t want to sleep with him no more

6. Really Don’t Care by Demi Lovato

I love this song! It’s so upbeat! Rather than sitting there being sad that the relationship is over, it gives you a different perspective that you’re better off without them. At the end of the day, if someone doesn’t want to be with you, or the lied to you, why sit there and cry. Put your hair in a bun, do some squats and make them fucking regret their decision.

But even if the stars and moon collide
I never want you back into my life
You can take your words and all your lies
Oh, oh, oh, I really don’t care

7. Used To Love You Sober by Kane Brown

This song pretty much sums up what many of us do help us forget the breakup. We drink… a lot. Now for me; drinking makes it much worse. I get emotional, and all I want to do is text the person and tell them I miss them… something that I should not do.

I’m on the floor cursing at the door
Broken hearted with a pounding head
And I know I got to let you go
So the liquor helps me forget,
Your name, your face
This pain I can’t erase

8. Clean by Taylor Swift

I am in love with this song. I remember one time after a breakup I listened to this song while driving in the rain and it just hit me. All of a sudden I just stopped crying and realized that I was free from this dysfunctional relationship I was in. Something about the rain just does something… like Taylor Swift says, she was finally clean from any trace of this person.

Rain came pouring down when I was drowning
That’s when I could finally breathe
And by morning gone was any trace of you,
I think I am finally clean

9. Bed of Lies by Nicki Minaj feat. Skylar Grey

Ah this song…LOVE LOVE LOVE. We have all been in a relationship where we were lied to, and manipulated and when it’s all over you sit there wondering: Do they even care? Did I mean anything to them? What the fuck is wrong with them? Then you start to ask yourself: What the fuck is wrong with me liking this person? Certain people have a certain hold over you, and you can’t even explain it.

So does she know I’ve been in that bed before
A thousand count, and not a single threaded truth
If I was just another girl
Then I’m ashamed to say that I’m not over you
There’s one thing I need to know
So call me, when you’re not so busy just thinking of yourself

10.The Heart Wants What It Wants by Selena Gomez

The heart wants what the heart wants… thats a very true statement, and I hate that sometimes. Sometimes even though you know deep down you should walk away and give up, and accept it’s over; its so hard. You just cant seem to let go. Your heart just wont let go.

The bed’s getting cold and you’re not here
The future that we hold is so unclear
But I’m not alive until you call
And I’ll bet the odds against it all
Save your advice ’cause I won’t hear
You might be right but I don’t care
There’s a million reasons why I should give you up
But the heart wants what it wants
The heart wants what it wants

At the end of the day, music can only do so much. It can help you get over your breakup, but it’s not going to fix everything. I know people always say “move on, you deserve better”. But sometimes you know best. Sometimes you know what you want, whether it not be the smartest choice. Like Selena Gomez says, “The heart wants what the heart wants”, so follow your heart and everything else will fall into place.
